Light of Buddha
Our exhibition entitled “Light of Buddha” pays our special tribute and great respect
to our guru and friend - Dr. Pratapaditya Pal. Dr. Pal is probably the most important forerunner in the field of Himalayan Art. He has single-handedly promoted the appreciation of Buddhist art in the past thirty more years and guided us to this beautiful yet not so well known art especially the field of Tibetan Buddhist Art. His publication has filled up lavishly the majority of our reference library.
“Light of Asia: Buddha Sakyamuni in Asian Art” in 1984 represents one of the foremost significant and inspiring exhibitions organized by Dr. Pal in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art .As a student in this field, we are caught in much surprise that one singular figure, Buddha Shakyamuni, could be so influential to arouse such immense interest from artists in every corners of Asia. And that so many endeavors are made to express their perception of this important figure through diversified modes and medium of casting, carvings, textile work and paintings.
In our exhibition, we attempt to present to our audience our limited acquisitions of images of Buddha Shakyamuni and his predecessors.Selections come mainly from the Himalayan region with special focus on Tibet and Nepal. They represent our 20 years of effort and devotion in this enormous field of pursuit. Acquaintance with this important figure has shed so much light and warmth to so many believers and admirers in the realm of our universe.

派爾教授可能是獨力令世人對佛教藝術(尤其喜瑪拉雅地區)產生興趣 的巨人學者。
他出版的書藉佔據我們參考圖書的顯眼位置。一九八四 年的洛杉磯博物館展覽--
「亞洲之光： 亞洲藝術中之釋迦牟尼佛」-- 令我們有很大的啟發。不同國籍，
不同種族的藝術家以多樣化的方式： 鑄造技術、 彫刻、織物和 彩畫來表達他們心
中的釋迦牟尼佛。能以多采多姿的媒介和材料將這位世人敬 仰的重要歷史人物生
動的活現在我們眼前， 多令人震撼和佩服。
「佛陀之光」代表著我們二十年的努力及追隨派爾教授所得的明燈的啟示。 我們
亦只能以有限的財力和緣份收集這些釋迦牟尼佛和佛教世界的其他先進者們的造
像。在茫茫的收集過程中，盡我們微少的力量展現給大眾觀賞這位曾經發光發亮的
重要人物的不同形象。
